History
"A dream! Something far in the future!" That was what John C. Calhoun Academy amounted to in 1966. It was then that the first classes were held at the First Christian Church with grades 1-8. The "dream" was enlarged by the purchasing of a tract of land in 1967 to be used for the school facilities and also residential sites. In 1967, determination was the key word as the architect was hired to make the dream become, in time, a reality. In the fall of '67, our "something to look forward to" proved to be "something worth waiting for" with its 11 acres of campus and classroom areas. The fall of 1968 saw completion of the high school classrooms. This product of John C. represents the School's pride. Reference: JohnC 1969 Page 2

The only thing man can be sure of is change. We came to the first day of school and pushed our way and moved and hurried and flew down the crowded hallways. Sometimes we felt joy or sadness, but a pattern emerged. This year was the same but different than the years before. Like the strings of the world in our hands something essential had changed. What use to be John C. Calhoun Academy had made the inevitable change that time required and became Colleton Prep. Academy on July 1, 1990. Being the first year of this new school, CPA, a family was formed around our lives. The Daily education, the various activities, and organizations formed the training program, which was designed to produce men and women fitting in mind, body, and spirit for the responsibilities of future life. So a year has come and gone, the first year of CPA has truly been a GRAND OPENING. Reference: CPA 1991 Page 2.
